Food Chain
A food chain is a pathway of feeding relationships among organisms in an ecosystem that results in energy transfer. The arrows in the food chain represent the transfer of energy. For example, in the food chain above, the snake eats the mouse. The energy from the mouse is transferred to the snake when it is eaten. Food chain connects to food web because food webs are made of food chains.
Food WebA food web is a group of interrelated food chains in an ecosystem. It shows a more complete view of the transfer of energy in the ecosystem. The food web, unlike the food chain, shows competition over the same resource. As shown in the right, the food web is more complex and complete than the food chain. Food webs connects to food chains because it is made up of food chains.
