Succession
Ecological succession is the gradual replacement of one plant community by another through natural processes over time. This happens after occurrences that destroy the life that lived there, such as fires, landslides, or other natural disasters.
Primary Succession
Primary succession is the first type of succession. It occurs when life is starting in an environment that has no soil. This can happen because of landslides or volcanoes. Primary succession connects to secondary succession because both are gradual replacement of one plant community by another through natural processes over time.

Secondary Succession
Secondary succession is like primary succession, except that it starts in an area that still has soil. This could happen because of things such as forest fires. It takes a lot less time because the environment doesn't have to make soil. Secondary succession connects to primary succession because both are gradual replacement of one plant community by another through natural processes over time.
