Trophic LevelsThe trophic level of an organism is the position it occupies in a food web. Each level is depended upon the other. For example, primary consumers, or herbivores, rely on primary producers for food. At each level, 90% of the energy is lost, so the trophic levels form a pyramid shape. Trophic levels connect to an energy pyramid and food chain because it shows the transfer of energy.
